What is in the name?

The answer to this question is a much-debated topic of the year. Since new iPhone’s launch is just a month away we are in suspense what’s it going to be an iPhone 8 or an iPhone 7s?
If we are to believe all the leaks, it is going to be an iPhone 8. According to Forbes, a recent leak confirmed that Apple would launch iPhone 8. Apple accidental leaks confirm the existence of iPhone 8. According to industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, it will be released sometime in mid-September.

Other Sources have also confirmed Apple is expected to unveil three new iPhones in its traditional special media event in September. Apple will also include the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus, as widely expected.
But if we look at  Apple’s standard Launching Process,
  • 2007 – iPhone
  • 2008 – iPhone 3G
  • 2009 – iPhone 3GS
  • 2010 – iPhone 4 (new design)
  • 2011 – iPhone 4s
  • 2012 – iPhone 5 (new design)
  • 2013 – iPhone 5s
  • 2014 – iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus (new design)
  • 2015 – iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus
  • 2016 – iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus
After the launch of every new series of iPhone, Apple launches an ‘S’ variant. After iPhone 4, iPhone 4s came similarly 5s after 5 and 6s after 6. The s variant is hardware bump rather than design change. So there is a chance that the 2017 iPhone would be called iPhone 7s.
But this year marks iPhone’s 10th Anniversary, and Apple is planning something major to celebrate this occasion. So Apple may launch one premium model with an OLED display which will be called iPhone 8 and two regular models which will be called iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus.
